Children's Literature Groups

This week, I have been working on my website, as well as other business issues and I have been joining professional groups that work with children's literature and literacy issues. One of the best looks like the Children's Literary Association. I have to admit, I am very partial to such work both as a teacher and a children's author/illustrator. I am really interested in getting involved with some of these groups internationally, while I am working on writing for the university. Do you have any favorite literacy groups or literary organizations that you think I should look into? Why are they important to you?

Hi Ev,

Thanks for the lead on the Children's Literary Association.

We would love it if you would jump in the The Reading Tub®! We're a nonprofit for children's literacy and family reading.

Our mantra is simple: We bring reading home to families.

Terry,

Wonderful! I look forward to checking out your site. I will write again after I have looked it over. Good luck!

The Reading Tub looks like a nice site for families who don't have a lot of time to browse the bookstore, but still want to make reading a priority. The site is worth a look!

Thanks! To get a child interested in reading, you need to find out what interests the child. We set up our search tools with that in mind ... especially when you're looking for reluctant reader and/or remedial reader books.

I will check out the Children's Literacy Association. I like the sounds of their search capabilities.

As a parent with voracious readers for children, I have not had to worry much about finding something for them to read - just finding somewhere to keep all of the books organized yet accessible at all times!

As a teacher, however, I have tried to help lots of reluctant readers find something to interest them, to get them hooked. I have not joined any literacy groups, but I do read a lot on literature circles in professional journals - that classroom activity seems to help a lot of poor readers improve their skills.
