Summer - working hot!

Summer has definitely arrived. It has been in the low 100's for the past few days and it is miserable. Still, you have to keep on writing and working! Luckily, the hut stays pretty cool - even in the heat of the afternoon.

I have been drawing mice for the last couple of weeks. It's funny how easy it gets to draw the same characters over and over again after you have done it for a bit. There is a muscle memory that suddenly kicks in. The mice are everywhere in this latest book. I don't know if I would want to live in a house with as many mice as I have drawn! It would probably freak me out.

Summer will be busy for me. I have new art to get out for my portfolio. UC teaching to prep. Continue writing my dissertation. AND, I have new books to write and draw.

What do you have planned for your summer? Is it busy or laid back?

This summer is all about taking it easy around the house for a change! We have no big plans - swimming at the local rec center or at the neighbors' house, building with Legos & Lincoln Logs, playing board games, scrapbooking, and lots of reading (we start our weekly trips to the library in about half an hour). It seems strange not to be traveling, but I am truly looking forward to getting things done around here, since there is little time to do so during the school year.

Sounds like the perfect summer plan. Your weekly trip to the library is something that I wish I'd done when my daughter was younger. Now the time is gone, but I've started trying to drag her down there anyway. Maybe it's never too late.

There is something supremely relaxing about milling around in the library, picking up a book, and settling in for a little reading completely outside the home.
